Stop the policing of women's bodily autonomy - Stop Amendment 26!

Right, I usually don’t post these kind of things but this is an issue that is very dear to me and received next to no media coverage at all. Many people in Mississippi aren’t even aware that this amendment is going to pass.

Amendment 26 essentially says: “The term ‘person’ or ‘persons’ shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, or the functional equivalent thereof.”

I guess you can already imagine the disastrous consequences this would have on women’s rights. This amendment could criminalise not only abortions but also miscarriages or birth control. A miscarriage could be classified as child murder. Not to mention that in the case of abortion being illegal, women would have to turn to illegal abortions which are a threat to their safety, since their safe choice was taken from them.

All this amendment does is putting the rights of an unborn fetus over the rights of women in this state, and if other states in the USA follow their example, in the whole country. It dictates what women are allowed to do with their bodies, it makes their body a state matter. Something that should not be possible in a 21st century democracy.
